Want to be a Better Affiliate Marketer?

As an affiliate marketer, I am always looking for a way to serve my customers better.  I have never before thought of doing exactly this but it makes sense.   It also works for product creators so if that is you, keep reading.

Picture this ( I’m sure you have been here) :

You’ve checked out a new product online… you know the one. The author is telling you that he made $27,495 in a month without a list, without contacts, and without something else ridiculous.

You’ve received multiple emails promoting this product and telling you why it’s the BOMB and you MUST buy it NOW or you will be BROKE forever.

If you have been following internet marketing for any amount of time, you will have been faced with this scenario many times.

Sometimes you buy, sometimes you don’t.

Lately for me it has been more DON”T than do…

… but maybe…

we are missing and opportunity when we don’t buy.

Why?

A better questions is:

Why did YOU NOT buy it?

Grab a sheet of paper and write down the reasons why you didn’t buy it.

Go ahead – do it.  There really is a great reason for doing this.

Here’s a possible list:

  • You don’t believe the claims
  • There’s no evidence to back the claims
  • You don’t trust the product creator, or you just don’t know him
  • You bought something similar and it was junk
  • You’re too busy working on something else to bother with watching the 27 videos that come with this
  • You’re sure there are going to be a dozen upsells, and you HATE that
  • In the third paragraph, the seller said something that really pissed you off
  • If the seller is making so much money, why does he need to sell this for nine lousy bucks?
  • Your Momma always said if it sounds too good to be true it probably is a lie

Or a hundred other possible reasons.

OK, so why did you just do that?

Guess what? Other people have the same exact objections as you do.

Now, depending on the product, your resources and business focus, you can do one of two things:

First option:

BUY the darn product and review it.

Review everything from the sales copy, buying process to the product itself.

If it is a piece of junk with no redeeming features, say so in your review.  It probably won’t get you any sales but you will build integrity by not promoting crap products.

If the product has merit, then take the time to overcome every single objection you had and send an email to your list with this information. Do the same in a blog post and send traffic to it.

Watch the sales come in.

This is also an excellent exercise to sharpen your copy-writing skills.

Oh, if there is something missing from the product, you could supply the missing part as a bonus or upsell of your own.

Or..

Second option:

that overcomes every single one of these objections and use this information  in your sales copy.

Assuming that there is actually a market for this type of product and you have the skills or resources to do so, creating your own product using this method makes a lot of sense.

You have the basic idea of the product from the original but you create your own better product by overcoming all the objections you raised yourself.  You already have your product and sales copy roughed out by doing this process so why stop now?

This process can work for affiliate marketers or product creators.

So the next time a product comes along and at first you don’t buy it, follow this process and watch what it does to your results.
