Tracking Your Keyword Ranking

Tracking your keyword ranking is another key element in your overall tracking and testing strategy.  There is no point in doing all the work to find and use your keywords if you don’t track how they are doing.

Unless you are a lot younger than I am, you probably don’t still use the same go-to phrases from high school.  Some of the keywords you use today will be unusable and will not work tomorrow.  The only way to know for sure is to monitor and track your keyword rankings over time.

Set Up Google Analytics and Search Consolekeyword ranking google analytics

You can learn how to set up and configure search console data sharing by looking at the directions provided by Google here. (https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1308621?hl=en). Once you set this up, you’ll be able to use more information to analyze your keyword data. It takes a little bit to set it up, then some time for it to resolve, but within 48 hours or so, you’ll be able to check out your keyword ranking better and easier.

Use Monitorbacklinks.com

This tool will help you monitor your brand by telling you when you earn new links back to your site. Plus, if a link is broken or removed, you will know right away. You can also track keyword ranking over time to see how this is affecting your progress. Also, you can use this tool to find out what keywords your competitors are using.

Use a Spreadsheetkeyword tracking spreadsheet

You can download data from Google or other services like SEOProfile.com, RankTank.com, and SEMRush.com.

Once you have downloaded the data, you can organize it in different ways to dig deeper into it. For example, you may want to occasionally check some of those keywords in an incognito window to find out if it’s returning your site as you think in the search results.

This is very time consuming, and the time you save using a paid product could be worth it if you have the funds.

Here are two possible solutions for you to check out.

SERPWatcher.com

You can see everything on one screen or change how you see the reports based on what you want to know. You can even share reports with others and organize keywords with tags to make it all work together more efficiently. They claim you can set it up and use it within 30 seconds too.

Regardless of the method or tools you use,  set up a schedule to check keyword ranking for each campaign that you launch.  Knowing these numbers can help you improve your content marketing and search engine optimization from all sides.

You’ll reach more of your ideal audience, which means that you can build a robust and healthy business that allows you to help people.
