Many people gets niche research wrong. I know I have on more than one occasion and I now know why.
I looked at what everyone else was selling, what they said would sell and decided on my niche solely on that.
While it worked for a short while, it died quickly.
There is a simple key that makes finding your successful niche more likely:
Problems trump products.
Yes, that’s right… problems that people have are the key.
* Look for Problems *
The secret is NOT to look for niches.
The secret IS to look for PROBLEMS. Look for the PAIN.
Find a group of people who meet and search online for solutions to their problems. Forums are a great place for that.
The biggies, in broad terms, are:
- health & fitness
- dating & relationships
- wealth & business niches
These three huge markets include people with problems that affect all of us at some point in our lives and have strong emotional pull. Most of us can identify with more than one issue in these markets.
* Find a Solution *
Once you have identified the problem (not niche) you want to look for a product that’s the best solution.
So first we find our potential audience, now we find a solution for their problem.
Go scour the internet for problems.
Use Google and search for:
– How to…
– Stop…
– Learn…
– Help me…
– Best way to…
Check forums and message boards.
Look at ezines and subscribe to lists. See what they’re selling.
Read the front covers of magazines and think about the people you know.
See what you come up with and make a short list.
This is a a great way to get started in your niche research efforts.
One more thing…
Some people say it does not matter in niche research but…
I strongly suggest you have at least some interest in the problems you put on your short list. I speak from experience. It is very difficult to continuously put in the work on a topic you do not care about.
Oh , you will probably start off well enough, but it is surprising how quickly it becomes a bore and a PITA to keep it up.
So, go out there and find some problems that interests you where people are searching for solutions.
I’ll be back in a day or so with the next step.
